How do I apply for a course? 

All of our courses can be found here on our website. When you have selected the one that is right for you, just hit the 'Apply now' button and follow the prompts to complete your application.  

What does a full-time course really mean – ie what are the hours of a full-time course?

A full-time course at Ayrshire College is normally 2.5 – 3 days a week

How much homework will I get? I am worried about how I can fit in studying as well as attend my classes.

It depends on what course you are doing, but you will be given plenty of support in balancing studying and classes.

Where can I study inside the College? What are the College opening hours?

All 3 campuses have a Learning Resource Centre where you will have the use of a computer, reference books and study area.

Opening hours of LRC:
Monday/Wednesday/Friday - 8.30am to 5pm
Tuesday/Thursdays - 8.30am to 7pm

College opening hours are:                               
Monday/Wednesday/Friday - 8am to 5pm
Tuesday/Thursday - 8am to 9pm

Summer and Holidays:
Monday to Thursday - 8am to 5pm
Friday - 8am to 4pm

I don’t have a computer at home, how can I fill in my application online?

You can come into any campus and the Student Services team will give you access to a laptop, and offer support to complete an online application. No need to make an appointment, just drop in between 9am – 4.30pm on any weekday.

Can anyone help me fill out the online application form?

Yes we are happy to help anyone fill out an application form. Please pop into any of our Student Services offices between 9am and 4.30pm on any weekday.

What other support is available to me at application stage?

The Student Services team can assist you to complete the application and offer course advice.
The Student Funding team can give you information about what funding you may receive on your course.
The Inclusive Learning team can help you if you have a support need that impacts on your learning and participation at college. The first step is letting Inclusive Learning know. It is important for you to make contact with us as early as possible.

I want to come to College, but I have no idea what I want to do? Who can I speak to?

The Student Services teams can help with course and career advice. You can make a 1-1 appointments by calling, emailing or dropping into any campus.

Will my benefits be affected by coming to College?

Once I apply for a course, how long will it be until I hear if I have been accepted?

This will depend on many things, for example the time of year you apply and the course you apply for.

What do I do if my application is not successful? Can I get some feedback on why I did not get accepted and can I reapply for another course?

Normally at your interview the lecturer who is interviewing you will give you feedback and discuss with you why the course is not suitable. You should be offered a place on an alternative course or referred to Student Services.
Our Student Services Advisors will be happy to give you some information on other courses which may be of interest to you.  

When do you get your timetable? How do you get this?

You get your timetable from your Curriculum area prior to your course starting. These will be emailed to your personal email account. It is therefore extremely important if you change your email address that you inform the College immediately.

How do I get into College – are there any bus/train discounts I am entitled to as a student?

Once you receive your student card you will be able to claim discount travel on buses and trains.

Are there any Facebook groups I can join?

Within the College there are lots of Facebook groups available. You can speak to your Curriculum admin to find out if there is a group in your area.

What do you wear to College?

You are can wear anything you like. We want you to feel comfortable.

Do you have to buy a uniform or any special tools/kit?

The relevant curriculum department will be able to give you more information on this.  

Where can I get lunch?

You can pick up lunch at the main refectories and our coffee shop outlets.

Can I bring a pack lunch and eat it in the refectory?


I have a food intolerance – does the refectory cater for my needs?


I am a Muslim - Do you serve halal meat?

Many of our meat dishes are prepared using Halal meat, please ask your server about specific dishes at the counter.

Is there any spiritual support in the College?

Yes we have College Chaplains in each week. Speak to the Student Association for more information.

Do you get travelling expenses?

This will depend on your personal circumstances and Student Funding will be able to help you with this.

When do I get my bursary?

Student Funding will be able to advise this. 

What do I do if I am unwell or can’t come into College one day?

The College has an absence hotline which is 0800 085 0215. You will also receive a text with the absence hotline details before you start your course. You can also contact your Curriculum Admin.
