October 30, 2019 - Jane Moore

I feel proud and honoured that I have won this award. I worked hard throughout my course and it goes to show that hard work and dedication pays off.

I had originally applied to go to university but then I found out about the College course and realised I would be able to learn and gain experience while working with children. It’s been a great stepping stone to university.

Before coming to the course I had some concerns as I knew that the course would be predominantly female and that there wouldn’t be as many males. However I needn’t have worried, I quickly fitted in and my concerns were gone.

As I’m dyslexic, Student Services helped me to arrange the appropriate support throughout my course, which was fantastic.

The course was really varied; from learning about legislation and good practice required for working with children to gaining the knowledge and skills required for a career as an Early Year’s Practitioner.

The placement was the highlight for me. I gained experience from the teaching staff at different levels. It was good to work directly with children using a variety of different teaching styles that I had learned during my studies.

I have gained a lot of confidence throughout this course. My ability to work to a deadline and work as part of a group with a variety of different people has improved and has inspired me to continue with my studies.

I feel proud and honoured that I have won this award. I worked hard throughout my course and it goes to show that hard work and dedication pays off.

I am now at the University of West of Scotland studying BA Education, whilst carrying on with my job. After university I’ll be a qualified primary teacher. As well as teaching in Scotland, I would love to spend some time teaching abroad to experience different cultures and further broaden my horizons.

Ayrshire College is a great place to learn and provides support for all its students on all different levels. It has brought accessible education to the people of Ayrshire allowing them to achieve qualifications which will allow them to work towards their goals.
