Introducing Design, Make, Market & Designer, Maker, Entrepreneur
Q.What is the reasoning behind these new courses and why now?
We have listened to the marketplace and over the last year have designed bespoke courses specifically for designers/makers providing design, production and business skills. The design students of the future are entrepreneurial; interested in launching products into the marketplace. We aim to build on those skills in preparation for small business startups across several creative fields.
We are not alone in our assumption of this growth area “With the boom in the Arts & Crafts market and the increased interest in textile crafts which, according to the UK Fashion & Textile Association is a ‘significant and growing area’, this is the perfect time to sign up for one of our courses” UKFT

Q.What do the courses cover and who are they aimed at?
The course content for each course varies but the essence is the same; fundamentally this is a design development course set at 2 levels launching next academic year -
Level 5: Design, Make and Market (DMM) is aimed at novice designers and makers looking to expand design and productions skills based in 2D & 3D crafts
Skills that we will be covering range from designing from source, garments and sewn products, jewellery, textiles, display techniques, photography, understanding social media and business development.
Level 6: Designer, Maker, Entrepreneur (DME) is aimed at the experienced designer and maker looking to enhance and produce prototypes ready for market.
Skills that we will be covering range from Trend Forecasting, Designing from Source, Jewellery, Textiles,
Design for Print, Corsetry, Millinery, Photography, Garments, Batch production, Social Media and Business Development.

On completion of these courses what do you see your students doing?
We have experienced staff who are excited to teach on this bespoke program, and we have tailored the content to excite our prospective students and impart years of knowledge and experience.
On completion our students will have a holistic body of practical work with resolved protypes based on their design process across multiple disciplines. They can choose to continue to study, or they can prepare to launch their business within the underpinning knowledge of their marketplace and how to reach them.
