Motivation is key
Mmm I love a biscuit and a plan: motivation is key!
I was reminded a few weeks ago by Doreen Wales of Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place which is a series of podcasts where Fearne talks to people (majority are celebrities) about life, loves, loss and everything in-between. If you haven’t heard of Happy Place before than I would recommend it to you. Since then I have listened to Davina McColl, Ellie Goulding, Paloma Faith, Dame Kelly Holmes and Mel C to name a few.
In particular, I was really touched by Davina McColl and Dame Kelly Holmes stories and started to follow them on social media. Both women are fitness fanatics and I am looking for some inspiration.
I have been thinking for a while now that I need to get my health and fitness back on track, this lockdown has not helped me at all. I’m like, mmmm I think I will have a cup of tea, now what will I have with it, a biscuit, a pancake….something yummy. Has anyone else felt like that? Surely, it’s not just me.
My 5 year plan is to be the fittest/healthiest I have ever been as this will improve my health and general wellbeing.
Dame Kelly Holmes was doing a live session and I decided to tune in to hear if she had any words of encouragement for me for my journey. I had never done this before so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Anyway, I sat and listened and before I know it I had asked her a few questions around motivation and exercise. Not for one minute did I think she would answer me - lo and behold, she mentioned me, my questions and answered them. Providing some great advice for my quest ahead.
To say the least I was buzzing, this was Dame Kelly Holmes (double gold Olympic athlete) answering wee Lisa from Stevenston. I phoned my Mum with excitement to tell her, Mum had no idea who I was talking about. I was gobsmacked that my Mum didn’t know who this was.
Anyway, I am thrilled that she answered me. Her advice, set yourself a goal, ensure that it is SMART, believe in yourself and come to her classes (which she is running on social media). For those who know me, know that I like a plan….this was music to my ears.
I have now prepared my plan, I have purchased a new bike (patiently waiting for it to arrive) and looking forward to starting my new programme. I am sure there will be good days and not so good, but you know what I am going to give it my best shot.
Listening or reading other people’s life stories can help shape our lives, imaginations and dreams. We can relate to stories and therefore feel that we can learn from them – this helps us to motivate and inspire us to do great things.
