Entry Requirements

To apply for this course, you'll need:

  • a strong passion for media
  • one Higher qualification, preferably in Media, English, or Modern Studies
  • alternatively, successful completion of our Film and Broadcast course
  • an interview with us
  • a sample of your written work, such as a film review

If you don’t have formal qualifications, but have appropriate experience or training, then we’ll also consider you for a place, so please do apply.

Course Content

During this comprehensive course, you may:

  • exploring film theory, covering key concepts, film language, and critical analysis
  • examining how film theories apply to new media, such as computer games, digital storytelling, and interactive installations
  • diving deep into media analysis, focusing on semiotics, representation, and ideology within media texts
  • immersing yourself in video production, from planning and scriptwriting to storyboards, camera operation, production, and editing. You'll produce your short video programmes
  • venturing into radio production, where you'll analyse various radio program types and create your short radio programme
  • developing photography skills, including camera controls, techniques, composition, and exposure
  • exploring the basics of animation and progressing to 3D computer animation using MAYA software
  • mastering the art of producing scripts and storyboards for non-factual TV programmes, working to a brief to create your scripts

As part of our media community, you may have exciting opportunities, such as working on live projects, contributing to our Annual End of Year Show, and attending our Short Film Awards Ceremony, where we showcase the best short films of the year.
