To apply for this course, you'll need:

• a genuine interest in hairdressing
• four National 4s or equivalent OR a relevant NC course at SCQF Level 4 or equivalent
• complete all sections of the application, including the personal statement

If you don’t have formal qualifications but have life experience, then we’ll also consider you for a place, so please do apply.

Our Level 5 Hairdressing course provides a comprehensive introduction to hairdressing. You'll develop creative and practical skills and gain technical knowledge. You'll train in our on-campus salons, working with real clients as you learn to cut, colour, and style hair.

Here's some of what you may learn:

• shampooing, blow-drying, styling, and setting techniques
• colouring and lightening hair, including product knowledge, mixing, preparation, application, and removal
• creative styling and curling, including long hair work
• cutting techniques using scissors correctly
• general salon duties and assisting in higher-level salon classes

In addition to the core curriculum, you'll have opportunities to:

• compete in hairdressing competitions
• organise charity fundraising events, offering services like pleats and curling
• learn from industry experts, including local salon owners and suppliers
• attend industry training days

Once you successfully complete this course, you may consider these options:

• progressing to Level 6 Hairdressing
• exploring various career paths, such as becoming a Salon/Session/Self-employed Stylist, Colour Technician, Hair Stylist aboard a Cruise Ship, Hair Stylist in TV/Film/Theatre, or a Hairdressing Trainer/Educator
