Overview
Wellness and holistic therapies aim to help the overall wellbeing of an individual, by balancing mind, body and spirit. The use of various therapies, like massage, can reduce stress and tension and improve the flow of energy to encourage the body to find balance and improve physical and psychological well-being. The use of these modalities will help to heal naturally and can support individuals cope with and overcome health issues.
Wellness is one of the fastest growing industries in the UK. If you would like to achieve a healthy lifestyle and support others to do the same, then this course is an ideal starting point.
Entry Requirements
For entry to this course, you’ll need:
- A real interest in Health & Wellbeing
- One Higher or equivalent or a qualification at SCQF Level 6 or equivalent
- to apply, completing all sections, including Personal Statement in full.
- To be aged 16 or over.

Course Content
Holistic Practitioner (Level 7) will ensure you have in depth knowledge and skills in an array of Therapeutic Treatments within Complementary and Holistic Health and Wellbeing areas. You'll develop the knowledge and essential skills required for working in a holistic, complementary therapy or spa environment, as well as self-development and self-help techniques. This course has practical work and there is also a theoretical element in the form of tutor led sessions and research projects. This course also prepares learners to study at HE level.
Here’s just some of what you may study: You'll study body structures and systems in depth to understand how wellness and complementary can have an effect on them. You'll learn how to consult with clients, devise treatment plans, blend and select oils to meet client needs and apply using Aromatherapy massage techniques. You will gain in depth knowledge of essential oils, including extraction methods, properties, essential oil safety. You'll learn sound knowledge of the theory and history of Relexology and the practical skills of how to perform Reflexology treatments on clients. You'll research different massage techniques, and then learn to perform signature massage techniques on clients to suit their needs and provide client lifestyle advice. You'll learn about skincare and how to consult and devise a treatment plan for a facial treatment including a facial/scalp massage. You will provide aftercare and homecare advice including skincare product advice to meet the clients aims.
You'll learn how to promote your ideas of self-employment opportunities and social marketing tools available.
You’ll have work placement opportunities to prepare you for work in a clinic or commercial setting, demonstrating your knowledge and skills through consulting, planning and performing Complementary/Wellness Therapy treatments.
Careers and Further Study
Progress to employment or self-employed Holistic Therapist within a salon or spa, Holistic Therapist within a Spa or a Holistic Clinical Practitioner.
Progress to a degree programme BSc (Hons) Integrative Healthcare degree with University of Highlands & Islands or University of West College Scotland.
