Have you had an idea of a story for a children’s book bubbling around in your head for sometime? Don’t know where to start in bringing your characters and illustrations to life? Well this is the perfect course for you!

Prepare to be transported into the nostalgic and magical world of Children’s Book illustration, in particular the area of picture books, aimed at 5-8 years old.

This introduction to children’s book illustration class will give you an insight into the world of children’s book illustration and allow you the opportunity to work towards creating characters, storyboards and final page layout illustrations incorporating text all in your own unique illustrative style.

This course is suitable for beginners and like minded creatives looking to explore their illustration skills further

Upon completion to this course, you will receive a college certificate.

Over the 12 weeks you will be lead through the essential steps for taking on a children's book illustration project based on a story you have personally written, between 250-1000 words long. In creating your own story this will allow you to have more personal creative freedom.

The first couple of weeks your lecturer will help you brainstorm your story idea, lead you through a creative writing workshop on how to write your story or help you develop your story idea further.

Following on there will be a series of lecturer lead workshops where you will explore a variety of exciting traditional media and techniques, learn how to illustrate compelling characters and dynamic page composition layouts. Also incorporating the importance of colour theory and how to apply it.

Introduction to basic digital manipulation of your artwork using adobe software. Aiding you to set page sizes and add in text.

Resulting in producing a couple of final double page Illustrations, as the course is only 12 weeks there will not be time to fully illustrate the whole book, generally picture books are 32 pages long, this course will however give you all the tools and experience for you to carry on and complete at your own pace.
