Entry Requirements

To apply for this course, you will need:

  • genuine interest in carpentry and joinery
  • completion of a pre-apprenticeship in Carpentry and Joinery at SCQF Level 5
  • a successful interview and skills test with us

If you don't have formal qualifications but have life experience, then we'll also consider you for a place, so please do apply.

Course Content

Throughout this course you may learn:

  • constructing houses and commercial buildings, top to bottom
  • various roofing structures, including traditional 'cut' roofs and dormer windows
  • floor joists, hatches, and different joist coverings
  • fitting stairs, encasements, kitchen units, worktops and more
  • installing all types of doors: single, doubles, French and sliding
  • organising, planning, and pricing jobs
  • interpreting drawn information, including CAD
  • energy efficiency, estimating quantities, and health and safety in construction

Apply your new skills craft projects within the local community. Past projects include building playhouses and renovating the Swan Pond Café at Culzean Country Park. Gain work experience with local employers like joinery firms or builders.
