Overview

This course is suitable for people who have an additional support need and are interested in preparing for employment. Students will be supported to build employability skills by taking part in work-tasters within vocational areas of college. This will help students to identify potential interests when job-seeking in future. Students will work closely with transition partners including Project Search, Skills Development Scotland, Employability and Skills and Supported Employment services to ensure a positive destination after finishing this course.

Course Content

This course is all about developing your skills so you can successfully seek employment and understand what skills will make you more employable.
You'll undertake work experience within areas of the college that will build on your current strengths and introduce new talents you may not currently recognise.

You'll work in groups on projects that help you:

- Develop skills to make you more employable, like working with other people.
- Gain a better understanding of personal strengths that you can take to any workplace
- Learn how to make the right decisions for the next stage in your life after college.
- Become more independent in your life and work.
- Become a more confident communicator and able to ‘have your say'.
- Develop strategies to cope with different situations in the adult world, such as how to resolve conflict or meet the next challenge.

In everything you do, you'll be developing your core skills like communication and numeracy, while preparing yourself to get ready for the world of work.

Careers and Further Study

In this course you will have built transferable employment skills to help you in the world or work.

Once you've successfully completed this course, you can choose to:

- Move into a Project Search course at Culzean (South Ayrshire residents) or Crosshouse Hospital (East Ayrshire residents)
- Progress to an NC Level 4/5 course in the wider curriculum
- Move into employment
