Care students celebrate placement success

Ayrshire College hosted a celebration of success at the Kilmarnock Campus on 7 June 2019, celebrating the success of Care students.

The College has been working in partnership with East Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership, celebrating the first year of Social Services and Health Care students going on placement with the ‘Care at Home’ team.

The ‘Care at Home’ team provides personal care and practical support for people to enable them to continue to live in their own home, by helping to maintain their independence.

Social Services and Health Care student, Kirsty Paton said “I’ve absolutely loved the experience. The mentors were so encouraging, from the very first day. It has really helped me, I feel much more confident now. I’m coming back to college to continue studying as I would like to be a Social Worker.”

East Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership Service Manager, Morag Steele said “The students are our future workforce, so it’s been beneficial for them to go on placement and to experience the role of the ‘Care at Home’ team first-hand.

“Not only did they support clients in a practical sense, they also supported family carers too. It’s a hugely important role. It’s been fantastic, and we are fully committed to working with the College and continuing the partnership, and we’re delighted that we can guarantee the students an interview with us.”

Eddie Fraser, Director of the East Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership, said “My congratulations go to all of the Care students who have completed their placements. Being part of the ‘Care at Home’ team is such a valuable experience, that will hopefully have shown the students what a worthwhile and fulfilling role they could pursue in the future.”
