Students create a Winter Wonderland at Ayrshire College

Essential Skills students from across Ayrshire College’s Ayr Campus organised a festive Winter Wonderland event this week, with all proceeds going to Alzheimer’s Scotland.

Students’ organised stalls offering festive food, face painting, arts and crafts for all the students to enjoy. Students and staff were also invited to meet Santa and his reindeer, win a prize on the tombola, get a festive makeover and watch some festive performances.

There was musical performances from Supported Education and Sound Production students, and Early Years students entertained children queuing to see Santa and his reindeer.

Primary one pupils from Ayr Grammar school and primary six pupils from St John’s Primary School in Ayr provided Christmas carols for the audience.

Social Science students helped support South Ayrshire Foodbank at the event by raising awareness and encouraging students and staff to donate food via their #OneStudentOneTin campaign. The campaign proved a great success, with the foodbank collecting a huge amount of food on the day.

About the success of the event, Arlene Trapp, Essential Skills Curriculum Manager said “I’m proud of how hard everyone has worked to give students the opportunity to practise their skills and show their talents at such an enjoyable and worthwhile event.

“We look forward to hosting this event each year where we will continue to bring departments together to show skill and raise funds for important causes. Thanks to staff and students from all departments who helped Essential Skills to raise over £600 for Alzheimer’s Scotland.”
