Travel and Tourism students are Fab-Yule-Ous

Ayrshire College’s students hosted a 'Fab-Yule-Ous' Christmas Fair at the Ayr Campus this week, in aid of one of the College’s supported charities, Brittle Bones UK.

HND Travel and Tourism students organised stalls offering festive food, mulled wine, arts and crafts, raffle prizes and the chance to buy Christmas gifts from local companies for all the students and staff to enjoy.

Even a Singing Santa made an appearance on the open mike thanks to the College’s Music department, entertaining all with well-known Christmas songs.

David Davidson, Human Resources Director at Ayrshire College opened the event. David said “Richard Toner, a student who is on the HND Travel and Tourism course, has carried out much work to raise awareness of the charity Brittle Bones UK in the College, with great success.

“The Brittle Bone Society is the only organisation set up to address the needs of people born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI).

“The 'Fab – yule – Ous' Christmas Fair was very generously supported by Lloyds Bank who matched the funds raised to £500. In total, a fantastic sum of £710 was raised at the Fair and with the £500 donation from Lloyds Bank, this took the total to £1210.

“An amazing achievement by our students, staff and partners who supported the event.”

One of the stall holders, Mark Russell, is a Team Manager for Lloyds Banking who organised matched funding for the event through Lloyds matched giving scheme.

Travel and Tourism Lecturer Luisa Vannucci said “I’d like to personally thank Mark, who ran a stall on the day with his daughter, for his generous donation. I am also very proud of the students. To plan, organise and carry out such a complex event can be very daunting. It has been extremely rewarding to have had the opportunity to see them grow their skills and develop their confidence. I look forward to seeing where their careers take them.”
