German rugby player enjoying Ayrshire life at the Moe

20-year-old Moe Zimmerman is loving his time in Ayrshire after making his full Ayr Rugby Club debut earlier this month.

Moe, who plays centre or wing, represented his country when playing for Germany at the U18 European Championships in 2019.

Now he's developing his rugby career at Ayr while studying Advanced Sports & Fitness at Ayrshire College.

Moe is enjoying his time at college and has ambitions of studying Physiotherapy at Glasgow Caledonian University next year - while also striving to play professional rugby one day.

Moe said: "The Ayr team has a lot of potential and good quality of players. We're a close group, and we are steadily improving towards the end of the season to reach our target of getting as high up the league table as possible.

"My ambitions are to play professional rugby in some sense when I'm older. The target is to get to Glasgow or Edinburgh. At the same time, I like Ayrshire, it's a great place. It's quiet, comfortable, and the people are friendly and engaging. There's a sense of community in Ayrshire.

"I'm a very competitive person - I don't like to lose. That's my favourite thing about rugby, the competitive spirit against my opposite number."

While enjoying his rugby and studies at Ayrshire College, Moe is also finding time to undertake work experience with LivFit Ayrshire, a gym in Ayr.

"I'm shadowing a personal trainer whenever I can. I like to spend as much time as possible in the gym, to study how to train.

"I offer advice on form and how to improve. I started working out when I was 14 so I have some knowledge on how to train, and I pass it on to help others get better."

Stuart Fenwick, Ayr Rugby Club First XV Head Coach, said: “Moe has settled well at Ayr and it is great to see players like Moe come to the area and become part of our rugby community. Moe contributes not only as a player but has supported kids’ rugby festivals in the area and enjoys helping coach when he can. We are sure he will continue to develop as a player and hopefully continue to enjoy his time in Ayr.”
