Ayrshire College hosts event looking ahead to a sustainable future

Ayrshire College held an event on Thursday 9 November to shine a light on the region’s successful sustainability projects and the businesses who are driving progress towards Scotland’s Net Zero goals.

Attendees heard first-hand from thought leaders, experts, and enthusiasts in sustainability, and it is hoped that this sharing of best practice will ignite positive change in Ayrshire.

The ‘Ayrshire’s Path to Sustainability: A Collective Journey’ event coincided with Holyrood’s Climate Action Summit in Edinburgh which is considering the practical steps required if Scotland is to achieve its Net Zero target.

The Scottish Government has set a target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to Net Zero by 2045. The college sector aims to reach Net Zero targets by 2040 and is embracing the Scottish Government’s Energy Strategy.

Ayrshire College is making good progress towards achieving sustainability goals. The College is focused on becoming a sector leader in carbon emissions reduction and is working with key stakeholders to build a sustainable network including Sustainable Scotland Network, Adaptation Scotland, Zero Waste Scotland, National Energy Research & Development Centre, as well as with each of the three Ayrshire local authorities and local stakeholders.

Nuala Boyle, Head of Business Growth at Ayrshire College, said: “The College is committed to supporting the business community and we have launched a new suite of sustainability courses. Our team is delighted to meet with businesses across Ayrshire to discuss training needs, not only in relation to sustainability but also wider and relevant topics including leadership - critical for embedding sustainability across organisations.

“The collective actions of business leaders, policy makers and partners play a key role in shaping a more sustainable future.  The decisions we make now and the actions we take will shape the world for generations to come. Together we can all make a difference.”
