Ayrshire College is the Enterprising College of the Year

Ayrshire College won the main award of the night at this year’s Bridge 2 Business Enterprise Awards, which took place on Thursday 11 May.

For promoting enterprise opportunities to its students, Ayrshire College was crowned the Enterprise College of the Year at the awards ceremony held at Glasgow Clyde College.

Arranged to celebrate enterprise activity across colleges in Scotland, the awards ceremony also highlighted student and staff achievements – with Ayrshire College lecturer John McBlain winning the College Enterprise Champion award for the third consecutive year.

Ayrshire College had an incredible 10 nominees at this year’s awards, including student Marco Scott, 19 from Irvine, and staff members Marc Wilson, John McTaggart, and the wider Sport & Fitness team.

Ayrshire College works alongside Bridge 2 Business with their innovative Enterprising Students Fund, funded through the Ayrshire College Foundation.

Any Ayrshire College student with their own business can apply for a grant worth up to £5,000. A Bridge 2 Business Programme Executive also provides students with support in developing business plans and one-to-one sessions.

John McBlain is the creator and co-host of Rockpool Podcasts, whose editorial team, involving seven Ayrshire College students, also earned an award nomination. Rockpool Podcasts is an Ayrshire College affiliated podcast which provides a platform for students at the College to showcase their talents during their time at college.

Angela Cox, Principal at Ayrshire College, said: “We are delighted to be recognised as leading the way in further education when it comes to enterprise activity. Through the Ayrshire College Foundation and our partnership with Bridge 2 Business, we are fully supportive of our students’ business ideas. We’re proud of the work we have achieved so far, and we look forward to identifying and supporting the next generation of Ayrshire College entrepreneurs.”

John McBlain, Music, Performance and Media lecturer at Ayrshire College, said: “It's a fantastic achievement to be recognised for the third year in a row! I'm passionate about creativity, enterprise and business and look forward to seeing what the next 12 months brings for my students and I at Ayrshire College.”
