College student's logo design is a HIT

HND Visual Communication student Jasmine Bryce from Ayrshire College has won a competition to re-design Hospitality Industry Trust (HIT) Scotland’s logo for its 30th anniversary.

HIT Scotland is a charity for the hospitality industry in Scotland, who are celebrating the significant milestone next year.

They approached Ayrshire College with a live brief to design a new logo, after working with college students across previous years on programme designs for their annual Burns Supper event.

Peter McClurg, Creative lecturer at Ayrshire College, said: “It’s always such a valuable experience for the students to get involved with a live brief. This not only gives them a taste of working with a real client from industry, but also prepares them for a vocational role in the world of graphic design. It also confirms to me that the course is robust and relevant to today’s commercial market.”

Jasmine Bryce, 18 from Ayr, said: “I had quite a strong idea quite early on, and it was just a case of executing it on Adobe Photoshop. It can be difficult to get it from how it looks in your brain to how it looks as a completed design. I think it’s turned out well, they [HIT Scotland] pointed out how much they liked that I’d incorporated their colour scheme. When I won, I was a little bit surprised because I saw some of the work done by my classmates and thought ‘wow, that’s so cool’, but I’m also really thankful.”
