Ayrshire College students thrilled on trip to aviation experts

Ayrshire College students enjoyed a flying visit to one of the world’s top airline maintenance companies — and left in high spirits after a day to remember!

Storm Aviation invited HIVE Intro to Careers Stage 2 learners from the College along to Prestwick Airport for a special behind-the-scenes look at life on the frontline of a global aircraft operations company.

Established in 1996, Storm Aviation is an international line, light and base maintenance provider for commercial aircraft operators who specialise in areas such as component repairs and overhaul, aircraft maintenance and aircraft interiors.

It was a fantastic opportunity for students to meet with Storm Aviation staff and gain an incredible insight into the inner workings of such a well-respected firm from the ground level up to board level.

Following a tour around the hangar and a look inside one of the planes undergoing a refurb, students then took part in a Q&A session with Storm Aviation staff to find out more about their specific roles, skills and their favourite part of the job.

Sharon Menzies, Employability and Engagement Officer, Ayrshire College, said: “Our thanks to Storm Aviation for allowing our students the opportunity to visit their facility at Prestwick Airport, and to learn about the type of work undertaken there.

“Experiences like this visit will prove invaluable for students when pursuing future career opportunities.”

Mike Stewart, Facilities, Safety, Change Management, Storm Aviation, said: “At Storm Aviation, we're passionate about offering opportunities for young people to learn more about our industry.

“It was a pleasure to welcome Ayrshire College to Prestwick and give them an  insight into Storm Aviation, our activities and future plans at Prestwick, and some tips from an interviewer on how to approach an apprenticeship or job interview.”
