Ayrshire College Welcomes First-Year Plumbing and Heating Apprentices
Ayrshire College was delighted to welcome 23 new first-year plumbing and heating apprentices, who have recently begun their journey towards an SVQ qualification. These apprentices, from many local employers, are part of the College’s ongoing commitment to developing a skilled workforce in the construction and building services sector.
During their first training sessions, the apprentices were introduced to key skills, including building a scaffold tower—a crucial component of their SVQ 1st year practical assessment. This hands-on training not only teaches them the technical aspects of scaffolding but also emphasises the importance of working safely and as part of a cohesive team. These foundational skills are critical as they prepare for the upcoming assessments, where they will need to construct a scaffold under formal conditions.
With 67 apprentices currently enrolled in the plumbing programme, Ayrshire College is proud to play a vital role in equipping the next generation of tradespeople with the skills they need to succeed in the modern workplace.
Angela Cox, Principal and Chief Executive Officer commented:
"We are thrilled to welcome our first-year plumbing apprentices as they embark on their training journey. The skills they’re learning—both technical and practical—are vital for the future of the industry. By providing hands-on, industry-aligned training, we are preparing these apprentices to become valuable contributors to Scotland’s workforce."
Ayrshire College remains committed to supporting the growth of local industries through high-quality apprenticeship programmes, working closely with employers to ensure apprentices are well-prepared for real-world challenges.
