Kilwinning Graduation 2019: Student of the Year for Computing

October 29, 2019 - Jane Moore

Winning this award feels fantastic! To be recognised for the hard work that I put in this year has given me a lot of confidence and I know that I have chosen the right field.

I came to college to start my path towards a degree in Computer Games Development.

My course was really varied, including maths, 3D animation, story and character creation, programming and app development. This all culminated into a Graded Unit project at the end of the year, where I had to make a game based on urban fantasy that was playable in virtual reality.

I personally enjoyed the 3D animation the most as it gave me a lot of freedom to be creative with a very powerful piece of software. My programming skills became a lot stronger during my course.

Most of my modules required a lot of documentation and reporting especially my character creation and storytelling module. This was a really great opportunity to improve my writing skills which will be invaluable as I progress to university and eventually a career in gaming.

Winning this award feels fantastic! To be recognised for the hard work that I put in this year has given me a lot of confidence and I know that I have chosen the right field. It’s a great achievement and will be good to have on my CV and could make me stand out more to future employers.

I am now hoping to move on to year 2 or 3 of a university degree in Computer Games Development.

After I get my degree, I would like to work for one of the bigger studios in the games industry to get good experience in creating and releasing games. From there I hope to maybe even work on my own independent game or as part of a small studio.

I think Ayrshire College is great and I really enjoyed my time there. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
