“Science changes and improves every day and I am proud to be a part of that.”

April 14, 2019 -

Stacy is a former Ayrshire College student and now works within the NHS as a Medical Laboratory Assistant. If you are interested in following in Stacy’s footsteps find out more about our NC Biomedical Sciences course.

“At college I studied NQ Biomedical Science, HNC Applied Science and HND Biological Sciences. I was intrigued to understand what happens in the human body and how I could help others.

College gave me confidence in myself. After doing NQ Biomedical Science I was determined to complete HNC Applied Science. Once I completed the HNC I was prepared and confident that I could go on and complete HND Biological Sciences. The help I received off of the lecturers was amazing and the patience they all had with me was great. I was a mature student with very little computer knowledge and no qualifications. I gained computer skills along with multiple other skills that I need to do my job.

I left college in June 2018 and turned my part-time job as a care assistant into a full-time job. I applied for jobs within the NHS as a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) and now work as an MLA in biochemistry. My job involves labelling samples, bookings samples into the system, putting samples into the centrifuge, pipetting serum from samples to tubes and then giving the biomedical scientists the samples to analyse.

Working in science you are not at the front line like doctors or nurses but the job that we do is every bit as important as those who do work on the front line. Science changes and improves every day and I am proud to be a part of that.”
