International Woman’s Day – Our inspiring women
If ever there was a time when our country needed hope, encouragement, wisdom and true leadership, it was 2020.
Today we are celebrating some of the inspiring women in the College who have had to deal with the really challenging experience of the Covid-19 pandemic in their job roles or studies.
First up is Professor Fiona McQueen Chief Nursing Officer Scotland and Vice Chair of the Ayrshire College Board of Management.
In this really uplifting interview, Fiona talks about what inspired her to become a nurse, why she moved into a management role and she provides a fascinating insight into what the last year has been like as CNO for Scotland. We discuss her thoughts on the levels of support for nurses and the importance of looking after their wellbeing.
We also chat about how she thinks we can encourage more men into care roles – to challenge gender imbalance in this profession and how nursing can offer flexible working to suit many lifestyles.
Fiona champions nursing as a great career choice, because of the difference you can make to other people’s lives. She believes college is a great place to start because it’s a safe space to learn with a small group of people and lots of support from experienced lecturers.
