Shaping the future of skills and innovation

Willie Mackie Skills Hub

An innovative centre of skills

The Willie Mackie Skills Hub is a cutting-edge, low-carbon facility at Ayrshire College dedicated to vocational training in both sustainable and SMART technologies, alongside traditional construction trades. The two-storey building features the latest industry-standard tools and equipment, providing students with an exceptional learning experience.

This innovative facility was made possible through significant contributions from Magnox, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), North Ayrshire Council, the Ayrshire College Foundation, and the Scottish Funding Council. The Skills Hub, named after former Ayrshire College Board Chair Willie Mackie, embodies the college's commitment to delivering a skilled workforce that meets the evolving needs of Ayrshire’s industries.

Ayrshire College Principal Angela Cox expressed the Hub's mission to inspire future workers, support current students, and help employers stay competitive amid technological advancements. The facility also serves as the primary location for STEM vocational skills development for students, school pupils, local employers, and North Ayrshire residents.

The Willie Mackie Skills Hub is more than just a building; it is a catalyst for growth and opportunity, empowering the local community to thrive in emerging and traditional industries alike.
