Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQ)

Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQ) are nationally recognised awards that allow employed candidates to demonstrate competence in job-related skills in their area of work and expertise.

There are a variety of SVQ frameworks at different SCQF levels. For more information on SCQF levels please see: Know your Level - Individuals | Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (scqf.org.uk)

To achieve an SVQ award, a candidate needs to assemble a portfolio of evidence consisting of work products, direct observations, reflective accounts, etc. These are all assessed by a VQ Assessor to confirm that they meet the relevant National Occupational Standards.

SVQ are often financed by the candidate’s employer or as a part of an Modern Apprenticeship (MA) program, however candidates can also self-finance*. Finance plans are available through the College Finance team.

*Please note that the consent of an employer is necessary for a candidate to undertake an SVQ regardless of the means of funding.
