Applying to Ayrshire College is straightforward, and we're here to support you at every step. This page offers guidance on completing your application, including tips on preparing your personal statement, submitting required documents, and understanding the selection process. Whether you're a first-time applicant or returning student, you'll find the information you need to navigate the application process with confidence.

When can I apply for a course?

Courses starting in August: Applications for courses starting in August typically open in December of the previous year. For example, courses starting in August 2025 opened in December 2024.

 

January Start Courses: Applications for courses starting in January usually open in October of the previous year. For example, courses starting in January 2025 opened in October 2024.

 

Evening Classes: Evening classes open in October for January starts and in March for August starts.

 

Professional Learning Courses: Courses such as REHIS, Gas Training, or CIM run throughout the year and can open at any time. View our professional learning courses here.

 

Apprenticeships: Apprenticeship applications typically open at the same time as full-time courses; October and December.

 

Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs): SVQ courses can be started at any time throughout the year. Visit our SVQ page to learn more.

How do I apply for a course?

How to Apply You can apply for a course directly on the website. Search for the subject you’re interested in on our courses pages, or use the keyword search.

Add any courses you’re considering to your shortlist by clicking the heart icon. Your shortlist pulls all selected courses into one page, making it easy to compare.

Once you’ve narrowed down your list, add them to your basket. Hit the "Apply now" button to open our application portal and begin your application.
Course Applications You can apply for up to 3 courses. List them in order of preference, as only one course will be processed at a time, starting with your first choice.
Account Registration When prompted, register for a college application account using your personal email address. If you are offered a place, a college email address will be allocated to you before you start.

What is a personal statement?

A personal statement is your opportunity to tell us about yourself and why you want to study your chosen course. It’s your chance to explain your motivations, highlight your skills and achievements, and demonstrate your enthusiasm for the subject. Your personal statement helps us understand more about you as a learner and how the course aligns with your future goals.

How will I hear back from the College after I have applied?

Account Login You will receive a text message and email asking you to log in to your college account.
Application Status Check the status of your application on your college account.

What should I expect if I am invited to attend an interview?

Preparing for Your Interview You'll be asked questions about why you are interested in this course, so it’s good to prepare in advance. You can find advice and guidance on this on the Getting Ready page.
Experience and Qualifications You will be asked questions about your experience and qualifications to date.

If you have any certificates, such as SQA certificates, please bring them with you to your interview.
Short Task Depending on which course you have chosen, you may be asked to complete a short task.

Have I been offered a place?

Account Login You will receive a text message and email asking you to log in to your college account.
Application Status Check the status of your application.
Accepting Your Offer If you are offered a place, please click to accept it. If you have chosen not to accept the offer please reject it. 

Rejecting the offer will automatically begin the process of you second choice.
