Overview

START ANYTIME - This SVQ Level 2 in Barbering at SCQF Level 5 covers areas such as shampooing, conditioning and treating the hair and scalp; cutting and clipping hair using barbering techniques; drying, styling and finishing hair using barbering techniques; and perming and neutralising hair.

Cost

£2,575 (Payment Plan options available, please contact our finance department for further information). Full funding is available through the New Flexible Workforce Development Fund (NFWDF) subject to individual eligibility. Please note, the NFWDF requires you to discuss your application with your employer before applying.

What's Involved?

Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) recognise competence in job-related skills and are based on National Occupational Standards.

This SVQ covers areas such as shampooing, conditioning and treating the hair and scalp; cutting and clipping hair using barbering techniques; drying, styling and finishing hair using barbering techniques; and perming and neutralising hair.

This qualification has been designed in partnership with the Skillsactive/HABIA — the sector skills council — to ensure relevance to the sector.

Course Content

The SVQ in Barbering at SCQF level 5 consists of 7 mandatory units and 6 optional units.

This SVQ is suitable for:

  • individuals who are currently in employment as a junior stylist and who wish to obtain a formal qualification
  • employees who wish to obtain short, continuing professional development courses

Learners will gain an internationally-recognised qualification that guarantees that they have the skills, knowledge and abilities required to carry out their role successfully. Employers will also benefit from their employees being proficient.
