Our motor vehicle courses are delivered through the internationally recognised IMI (Institute of the Motor Industry) to give you the skills you need for a great career. You'll also be taught by experienced industry professionals, who keep their skills and knowledge of modern technologies fully up to date through our Continuous Professional Development programme. Entry Requirements
To apply for this course, you'll need:
- A genuine interest in the motor industry
- Three National 3s or equivalent or an engineering qualification
- An interview with us
If you don’t have formal qualifications but have life experience, then we’ll also consider you for a place, so please do apply.
Course Content
During this course, you may have the opportunity to:
- Develop practical skills in our well-equipped workshop.
- Cover all vehicle-related systems, including engines, transmissions, exhausts, electrical, brakes, fuel, steering, and suspension.
- Participate in hands-on activities like removing wheels, removing, and fitting components, and routine vehicle maintenance.
- Explore the effects of vehicles on the environment, including low carbon technologies.
- Learn about workshop safety and maintenance, vehicle construction, moving loads, using vehicle lifts, and garage equipment.
- Gain insight into the retail motor industry and vehicle repair trade.
- Gain essential knowledge to succeed in the motor industry.
Careers and Further Study
After you successfully complete this course, you may have the opportunity to:
- Progress to a relevant SCQF Level 5 course, such as IMI Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles (SCQF Level 5).
- Begin your career with a Modern Apprenticeship in a garage.
