Ayrshire College team reveals new podcast
Ayrshire College's music and sound production department has launched an exciting new podcast called Rockpool Podcasts.
Named after the college's state-of-the-art recording and rehearsal facilities at its Ayr Campus - Rockpool Studios - the podcast aims to build a community and give the department's students another creative outlet in which to showcase their talents during their time at college.
The main Rockpool Podcasts show will feature individual stories written, produced and hosted entirely by Ayrshire College music and sound production students. There will also be mini-episodes all about music, where the hosts speak to staff and students from across the college community.
There are also bonus episodes promised involving prominent special guests from the creative industries.
Students from Ayrshire College's Introduction to Sound Production course, and the NPA Sound Production course - made up of secondary schools across Ayrshire studying on a School-College partnership programme - have already started writing, recording and producing episodes for the podcast. Access to Music, HNC Music and HND Music students are all preparing to feature in upcoming episodes.
Speaking ahead of the first episode's launch, John McBlain, Lecturer in Music & Performance at Ayrshire College, said: "It is obvious that 2020 is a year like no other at Ayrshire College, with staff and students alike adapting to new pedagogical approaches to learning and teaching, while managing their personal and professional lives and commitments in an online and offline world that is constantly changing.
"While we face many challenges, there have been many opportunities to enhance digital literacy, explore some truly innovative methods of engagement, and to encourage people to come together as a community, share experiences and learn from each other.
"Having spoken to colleagues at Ayrshire College, the College Development Network and further afield, the importance of community and supporting each other during this challenging year is so important. In addition, we want to ensure our students have a positive and transformative learning experience, to encourage and ensure success, increase opportunities available to them, and to ensure progression and retention at Ayrshire College."
