Ayrshire College photographer offers free photoshoots to dog owners

Troon-based loneliness and animal charity, Give a Dog a Bone, has teamed up with an Ayrshire College photography student to offer a free mini photoshoot to South Ayrshire dog lovers over 60 and their pooch.

Local residents are being offered a 30-minute timeslot to attend the charity’s Troon Community Space, 9 Ayr Street, over the next three Mondays – 29 November, 6 December and 13 December.

Residents are asked to submit their interest on the charity website at https://bit.ly/TroonPhotos.

Give a Dog a Bone…and an animal a home, is a charity tackling loneliness for older adults and animal homelessness by helping people over 60 afford a rescue pet companion.

The charity was approached by the Ayrshire student, Jacqui Conn, who wanted to donate her photography skills to the charity after a visit to the Troon Community Space, one of three the charity has in Scotland. Impressed with the work the charity does to support older adults from the community, Jacqui wanted to donate her time and skills in some way to help.

Jacqui Conn, Ayrshire College photography student said: “I have had rescue dogs myself and know the happiness they bring, so to see the Troon hub blossom tackling loneliness among older adults and support rehoming in a unique way just made me want to play a small part if I could.”

Give a Dog a Bone…and an animal a home helps reduce the adverse effects of loneliness for older adults through animal companionship. The charity helps people over 60 afford a rescue pet companion, helps with monthly support to feed and care for an animal, and provides an evolving programme of free activities at its Community Spaces to help older adults learn new skills and engage with their community.

Louise Russell, Give a Dog a Bone Charity Founder, said: “We were so delighted with Jacqui’s offer to donate her time and skills to our charity. We work hard to highlight the benefits that animal companionship can make to an older person’s life, and photographs are a lovely way to capture that. We’re very grateful to Jacqui for her support.”

Timeslots over the three Mondays are limited and will be offered on a first come first served basis. Give a Dog a Bone is offering 30-minute timeslots with Jacqui on Monday 29 November, Monday 6 December and Monday 13 December at the Troon Community Space, 9 Ayr Street, Troon, KA10 6EB. Timeslots will be confirmed upon payment of a £10 deposit which will be returned on the day of the photoshoot.
