Ayrshire College's Project SEARCH programme at Culzean Castle has been recognised for its outstanding efforts with a Bronze Award for Commitment to Outcomes at the recent DFN Project SEARCH UK annual conference in Birmingham from 21-22 April 2026.
The programme, delivered by Ayrshire College, supports young people aged 17–29 in South Ayrshire who have learning difficulties and/or are on the autistic spectrum, helping them develop the transferable and employability skills needed for successful careers in the wider community.
The national award celebrates the dedication, resilience and collaboration shown by staff and partners, particularly during a period of significant change for the programme.
This year's conference focussed on building bridges between education and employment by creating pathways during the crucial transitional moments in young adults’ lives. These bridges will be vital to achieving Project SEARCH's target of supporting 10,000 young adults into the workforce by 2030.
Greg Cassidy, Head of Learning & Skills - Supported Learning, HIVE and ESOL said:
I'm delighted that Project SEARCH team has received this recognition. This Bronze Award is a well-deserved recognition of the dedication, professionalism and collaboration from everyone. We have seen first-hand the confidence, skills and workplace experience that students gain throughout the course, and the positive difference this makes to both students and employers within the community.
Mark MacMillan, Employability & Engagement Officer at Ayrshire College, added:
It is a privilege to work with Project Search students particularly in the setting of Culzean Castle. All of our partners have been incredibly supportive and accommodating during the recent changes and that has allowed us to bring more diverse opportunities to help prepare them for the world of work which has resulted in the outcomes that we have had.
Claire Stewart, Job Coach at Girvan Youth Trust, commented:
We're proud to support Project SEARCH and the incredible impact it continues to make for young people across South Ayrshire. The programme creates meaningful opportunities, helps build confidence and independence, and supports young people to develop the skills and experience they need to move into employment and achieve their goals.
The recognition highlights the programme’s continued focus on delivering positive outcomes and creating meaningful opportunities for participants across the partnership.
