Ayrshire College is celebrating the outstanding success of bricklaying student Chantelle Muir, who has secured 2nd place in the SkillBuild National Final 2025, held from 18–20 November at Arena MK in Milton Keynes.
SkillBuild, delivered by CITB, is the UK’s largest and most prestigious multi-trade competition, bringing together the country’s most talented apprentices and trainees. Competitors are assessed on a rigorous range of skills including technical precision, time management, problem-solving, and their ability to perform consistently under pressure.
Chantelle earned her place at the national final after a strong performance at the 2025 Regional Qualifiers, where she once again finished second. Her score placed her within the top eight across the UK, securing her a coveted place on the national stage.
Building on this achievement, Chantelle delivered an exceptional performance at the SkillBuild National Final, impressing judges with her craftsmanship, accuracy, and professionalism, ultimately earning 2nd place nationally in bricklaying.
Chantelle, who has progressed from pre-apprenticeship bricklaying through her apprenticeship at Ayrshire College now works full-time with Persimmon Homes. Her success reflects years of dedication to perfecting her trade.
She was supported at the competition by her lecturer, Billy Hutchison, who has been a key figure in her training journey.
“We are absolutely thrilled for Chantelle,” said Billy, Lecturer in Construction and Renewables at Ayrshire College. “Finishing second in the entire UK is an incredible accomplishment. Her skill, determination and work ethic have shone through from the very beginning. Everyone at Ayrshire College is immensely proud of what she has achieved.”
Reflecting on her experience, Chantelle said:
I’m so proud to have taken 2nd place at the national final. It was an amazing experience competing against the best in the country. I’ve had brilliant support from my lecturers and from Persimmon Homes, and I’m grateful for everything I’ve learned at Ayrshire College. This competition has really shown me how far I’ve come.
Competitions like SkillBuild not only help students refine their technical and employability skills, but also boost confidence, open career pathways, and showcase the high standards of training offered by colleges like Ayrshire College.
