Ayrshire College students were given a unique opportunity to explore careers in aviation during a behind-the-scenes visit to AirTanker's operations at Prestwick Airport.
The visit, facilitated by Central Ayrshire MP Alan Gemmell, allowed students to see the Royal Air Force's Voyager aircraft up close while learning about the skills, training and career pathways available across the aviation sector.
Students met industry professionals, explored the technology behind the aircraft and gained insight into the specialist roles that keep operations running, helping them understand how their studies can lead to careers in aerospace and engineering.
Alan Gemmell MP said:
We have a world-class aviation industry here in Ayrshire, and I want our young people to know that these opportunities are on their doorstep.
That's why bringing Ayrshire College and AirTanker together was so important. There's no substitute for seeing an operation like this first-hand, meeting the people behind it and realising that a career in aviation could be within reach.
Prestwick has a proud aviation legacy and an exciting future. We must ensure that the skilled workforce leading its next chapter is developed right here in Ayrshire.
The visit comes at an exciting time for Ayrshire's aerospace sector, with continued investment and growth creating opportunities for skilled workers across the region.
Ayrshire College plays a key role in developing the future workforce, working closely with industry partners to deliver training and qualifications that meet employer needs. Through its engineering and aerospace programmes, apprenticeships and specialist training, the College equips students with the knowledge, practical skills and experience needed to succeed in this growing industry.
