On Monday 16 February, we were delighted to deliver our first Infill Composite Repair course at our Ayr Campus.

Over the course of one week, four delegates, joining us through both self-funding and employer sponsorship, gained hands-on experience in:

  • Fabricating composite panels

  • Identifying defects

  • Applying a range of repair techniques

Delivered in our specialist Composite Room within the Aeronautical Building, the course provided a practical, immersive learning experience designed to meet the growing demand for specialised composite skills in the aerospace sector.

This short course highlights the importance of upskilling, supporting both individuals looking to enhance their skillsets and employers investing in their workforce. It also showcases the strong collaboration between our Business Engagement and Innovation team and curriculum areas to deliver industry-relevant training.

Delegate Marco Saitta, shared his positive experience:

This course gave me valuable hands-on experience and deeper knowledge in composite inspection and repair techniques, which are essential skills within the aircraft engineering industry. It was an intensive and rewarding week, and I’m proud of what I achieved.

I’m also excited to confirm that I have secured a place at Ayrshire College to begin the HNC Aircraft Engineering programme starting this August. I’m really looking forward to continuing my development and building a strong foundation for my career in aviation.

A big thank you to our tutors, Gordon and David, for their guidance, support and for sharing their industry knowledge throughout the course — it was greatly appreciated.

With increasing interest in our composite offering, this is just one of many courses running this year, helping to position Ayrshire as a hub for advanced manufacturing and aerospace skills.
