More than 750 young people from across Ayrshire signed up to explore their future education, training and career options through a major UCAS Discovery event at Ayrshire College.

Hosted at the College’s Kilmarnock Campus, the event brought universities, colleges, and specialist advisers together, giving school pupils and college students direct access to the information they need to make confident decisions about their futures.

Representatives from 23 universities and colleges helped visitors compare courses, qualifications and progression routes available across Scotland and beyond. Young people could ask questions about entry requirements, applications and student life while exploring the many pathways available after school or college.

Pupils attended from secondary schools across Ayrshire, including Ardrossan, Auchenharvie, Ayr, Belmont,Girvan, Grange, Irvine, Kilmarnock, Kilwinning, Kyle, Largs, Loudoun, Robert Burns, Wellington School and Castlemilk High School also making the journey from Glasgow to take part in the event

Experts from UCAS, and Skills Development Scotland provided practical guidance on applications, funding and career choices.

Representatives from the British Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy also attended to share information about careers and training opportunities within the Armed Forces.

UCAS Discovery events help young people explore their options, speak directly with education providers and receive impartial guidance. UCAS figures show that 76% of students who attend a Discovery event go on to apply to higher education, while the events have a 91% satisfaction rating among students.

Bringing this range of organisations together at Kilmarnock Campus ensured that young people from across Ayrshire could access expert advice locally and gain a clearer understanding of the opportunities available to them.
