Our Pre-Apprenticeship Carpentry and Joinery (SCQF Level 5) students in Kilmarnock completed a new work experience programme with local construction firm McConnell.
McConnell have been valued supporters of our course for several years, previously offering placements to a small number of students. Last month, they took their commitment even further by expanding opportunities and welcoming up to 10 of our students.
This partnership marks a fantastic step forward, giving more of our learners the chance to gain real-world experience, build their skills, and take the next step toward a career in the construction industry.
Blair Innes, Lecturer in Construction Technology, Trades and Renewables, commented:
We’re delighted to see more of our students benefiting from this opportunity with McConnell. Gaining hands-on experience in a real working environment is invaluable, helping our learners build confidence, develop practical skills, and better understand the expectations of the industry.
Iris Trearty, Community Benefits Coordinator at McConnell, said:
It’s important to us to provide real-world experience to the next generation, and we’re delighted to have offered this opportunity to ten students from Ayrshire College. Their enthusiasm and passion were a pleasure to see, and we hope the skills they’ve gained will support them in building successful careers in the industry.
