Ayrshire College is celebrating a significant achievement that highlights its role in developing the skilled workforce the hospitality sector relies on, as seven students competed in this year’s prestigious Nestlé Toque d’Or competition.
The national competition, delivered in partnership with leading employers, brings together some of the UK’s most promising emerging talent and reflects the growing demand for highly skilled professionals across the hospitality industry, both in Ayrshire and nationally.
Representing the College across Back of House and Front of House disciplines, students demonstrated the high standards, professionalism and industry awareness required by employers. From delivering Scandinavian-inspired dishes to providing a polished customer experience, their performance showcased the practical skills and behaviours essential to success in the workplace.
Experiences like this form a key part of Ayrshire College’s approach to working with industry, ensuring students develop the skills, confidence and real-world experience needed to progress into employment and support businesses across the region.
The College is particularly proud to announce that Declan Sloan, an SVQ Food and Beverage Level 5 student, has secured a place in the Grand Final, placing him among the UK’s most promising hospitality talent.
The Grand Finals, beginning on 10 May 2026, will see Declan travel to London to take part in an intensive programme of challenges across leading hospitality brands and venues. The experience will further develop advanced skills in customer service, mixology and coffee, areas that are critical to employers across the sector.
Reflecting on his achievement, Declan said:
I’m absolutely delighted to make it through to the Grand Final. Competing alongside such talented people has been an incredible experience, and I’ve learned so much already. I’m excited to take on the challenges in London and give it my all.

Angela Sheridan, Head of Learning & Skills at Ayrshire College, said:
We are incredibly proud of our students and what they have achieved through this competition. Opportunities like this are vital in developing the skilled workforce the hospitality sector relies on.
She added:
Ayrshire College plays a key role in supporting the regional economy by working closely with employers to develop the skills and talent needed across key sectors, including hospitality. Declan’s success is a strong example of how this approach helps people progress and supports businesses to access the talent they need.
As Declan prepares for the final stage of the competition, his success reflects not only his individual talent and commitment, but the College’s wider contribution to supporting employers, addressing skills needs and strengthening the future workforce across Ayrshire.
