Ayrshire College students are taking full advantage of a Skills Development Scotland careers centre at its Ayr Campus, strengthening the organisation’s ongoing partnership with the College.
Skills Development Scotland (SDS), which offers free, impartial career information, advice and guidance for people of all ages, moved to Ayrshire College’s Ayr Campus from Carrick Street in Ayr earlier this month.
Kevin Callan, Team Leader for Skills Development Scotland, Ayr, said: “Our team is here to support people of any age looking to get into work, change career, upskill or reskill, or re-join the workforce after a career break. We’ve always had a presence at the Ayr Campus on a Wednesday afternoon but since moving there on a permanent basis four days a week, the student enquiries have been increasing at a nice, steady pace. We have QR codes around the campus that students can scan to request an appointment with an adviser, and that has been working well.
“Overall, the move has been a really positive one for us. Everyone has been so welcoming and nothing seems to be any trouble for anyone.”
Doreen Wales, Assistant Principal Student Experience and Quality Enhancement at Ayrshire College added: “The Skills Development Scotland team have settled in well at Ayrshire College and while there were already established links for our students to engage with the SDS team on campus, this move has undoubtedly made this partnership more visible for our students who are engaging with the service more than ever.
“Ultimately, this setup helps students to make informed career choices and enables smoother transitions from education to meaningful employment. It also gives potential students another reason to visit our Ayr Campus and see what a welcoming place it is for learners of all ages.”
