Building a future in construction

Maia’s time at Ayrshire College gave her the opportunity to explore different areas of the construction industry and gain a better understanding of where she wanted her future career to take her.

Studying Architectural Technology helped Maia confirm her ambition to become a Quantity Surveyor. The range of topics covered throughout the course gave her valuable insight into the industry and helped her make informed decisions about her next steps.

Working hard to achieve her goals

One of Maia’s proudest achievements was receiving an A in her Graded Unit, the result of the hard work and commitment she put into her studies.

Balancing college with a part-time job was one of her biggest challenges. By creating a study timetable and managing her time carefully, Maia was able to stay organised and make time for both her work and studies.

She also developed her confidence through experiences such as creating and delivering PowerPoint presentations, while a site visit gave her the opportunity to see the industry beyond the classroom.

Support along the way

Maia is particularly grateful to her lecturer, Barry Kerr, who supported her throughout the year and helped her progress towards her goals.

She also enjoyed learning about the different modules within her course, which gave her a broader understanding of the construction industry and helped shape her future ambitions.

What’s next?

Maia has secured a place at university, entering directly into second year, and has also successfully secured an apprenticeship in Quantity Surveying.

Her ambition is to continue developing her knowledge and experience, combining university study with practical industry experience as she works towards becoming a fully qualified Quantity Surveyor.
