Doreen Wales

Assistant Principal of Student Experience and Quality Enhancement 

Doreen Wales is the Assistant Principal of Student Experience and Quality Enhancement at Ayrshire College, with over 20 years of experience in the Further Education sector. 

 

She holds a BA Hons in French and English, a Masters in Adult and Continuing Education from Glasgow University, and several qualifications in teaching and leadership, including a Certificate in English Language Teaching for Adults (CELTA) and a CMI qualification in Strategic Management and Leadership. 

 

Doreen's career spans various roles in learning, teaching, and management. Prior to joining Ayrshire College, she worked at the Nautical College in Glasgow and as a Language Teaching Fellow at the University of Strathclyde. Her experience also includes work in ESOL, adult literacies, and the third sector in training and development roles. 

 

Passionate about lifelong learning, Doreen is dedicated to the transformative power of education. She believes strongly in the role that colleges play in empowering individuals and driving social and economic change within the community. Doreen is active in several external groups across the Ayrshire region and co-chairs the College Development Network’s Career Education, Advice, and Guidance Network. Her particular interests include student mental health and wellbeing, as well as support for Student Carers and Care Experienced young people.
