Overview

If you are interested in a career in Dental Nursing, Oral Health or within Health and Social Care this course can help you on your way. Working in the classroom and in our dental surgery you will develop the knowledge and skills to prepare you for employment and/or more advanced study.

Entry requirements

For entry to this course you will need:

A real interest in working with people

Three relevant National 5s or equivalent

An interview with us during which you will complete a short written activity

Applicants whose first language is not English should have a minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for level 5 courses

You should be aware that you will be asked to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme on all care courses at level 6 or above and be occupationally fit for practice.

Course content

This course develops your knowledge and understanding for working successfully in a Dental or Care setting. Here’s just some of what you’ll be doing: Decontamination; First aid; Health and Safety ; Dental Anatomy; Dental Patient Care; The clinical assessment of patients’ dental health, and the safe handling of instruments, materials, and equipment used in dental practice You will develop skills that will help you now and in the future. These skills will be useful in life, learning and work. They will include communication; digital and employment skills. You will develop meta skills that will increase your self-awareness and help you be more effective in everything you do.

Successful completion of this course may provide progression opportunities to:

PDA in Dental Nursing*

SVQ in Dental Nursing*

Employment in the oral health care sector, perhaps as a trainee dental nurse*

*Subject to evidence of successful PVG or to HNC Health and Social Care courses
