Overview

The course content will cover the main ceramic hand building techniques including pinch pot, coiling and slab building, students may also have an opportunity to throw on a potters wheel.

Students will produce and glaze one object from each taught technique, and have the opportunity to design and make as time allows, following introductory lessons on the three hand building techniques, students can pick and choose which they focus on.

This course is for someone who has little or no knowledge of ceramics and would like to explore ceramics as a medium, but would also be ideal for the person with some knowledge they would like to explore. there will be no assessment, however, feedback is given at all stages.

Course Content

The course will consist of the following:

  • Health & safety
  • Wedging and preparing clay
  • Making a Pinch pot
  • Coil building
  • Slab Building
  • 2 and 3D decoration
  • Glazing
  • Demonstration of firing process
  • Design and make

Tools and a generous quantity of clay will be provided per student, with more clay available for purchase if desired. As this is a practical course, we would recommend suitable clothing (apron).
