Attendance/Duration

Thursday, 6pm – 9pm This course runs 17 week blocks in Semester 1 and Semester 2. These times include a period for shut down procedures at the end of the night. Please note this course will be delivered in person although there may be occasional elements of blended learning.

Overview

This course is for all ages looking to study National 5 level ESOL (or equivalent) and who need to improve their English before progressing to further study in college or to employment.

You will study an SQA accredited ESOL unit at the appropriate level as well as units to develop skills which will support with work, study and life. An ESOL course will help increase your confidence in communicating in English at home, with family and friends, at work, and in everyday social situations.

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements:
You should have a certificate for ESOL at National 4 or an equivalent (https://www.sqa.org.uk/sqa/files_ccc/SQA_ESOL_CEFR_Levels.pdf)

Course Content

You will improve your knowledge and skills in English. In addition, the course is designed to help students make the transition from community learning to a college course.

Here is more on what you will be doing:

  • Gaining confidence in using the English Language: you will study for 3 hrs per week to practice speaking, listening, reading and writing skills and enhance your vocabulary.
  • Developing other skills to help with study and employability: you will study subjects such as ICT and Working with Others to help prepare you for life beyond college.
  • Being part of the college community, meeting new friends and getting support and guidance whilst learning about a new culture.

If you do not know your level, apply for any level of course on the website and you will be invited for an initial assessment to establish your level.

On completion of ESOL National 5 you will be ready and able to study at ESOL Higher.
