Overview

Beauty and Spa Therapies course is comparable to SCQF Level 6, August start 18 weeks, Beauty and Spa Therapy professionals play an important role in contributing to positive wellbeing, by helping us to feel our best. They also get to be part of a diverse and ever evolving industry, which is rewarding to work in. In recent years interest in beauty and spa therapies has increased considerably, this is expected to continue, providing employment opportunities. This course will be delivered in campus and will include work placement opportunities in industry. To gain accreditation, some home study along with practical and written assessments are mandatory to achieve your qualification. We will work alongside local Spa's to allow you to gain meaningful insight and experience into the world of beauty and spa therapies. To be successful in this profession you must be caring, committed and hardworking. You'll also need to be self-motivated, a good team player and enjoy working with people. If you're interested in taking the first steps on this exciting career path, this is the course for you. For entry to this course, you'll need: A real interest in beauty, massage and spa therapies and a desire to work/or already be working in a Beauty/Spa environment. Four National 5s or equivalent OR a relevant course at SCQF Level 5, or equivalent. To be aged 16 or over If you don't have formal qualifications, but have life experience, then we'll also consider you for a place. To apply, complete all sections, including Personal Statement in full. NB we may notify you of the outcome by letter and/or receive an interview

To apply for this course, you'll need:

  • a genuine interest in beauty therapy, massage and spa therapy.
  • four National 5 qualifications or equivalent OR a relevant course at SCQF Level 5, or equivalent.
  • aged 16 or over

Course Content

Beauty & Spa Therapies course will ensure you have in depth knowledge and skills in an array of beauty and spa therapy treatments. The range of skills you study along with work placement opportunities will enable you to extend and build on your competencies to meet the beauty and spa industry requirements. This course is mainly practical work, however there is also a theoretical element in the form of tutor led sessions, written assessments and open book projects to complete.

Here’s just some of what you may study: You'll study some body structures and systems in depth to understand how beauty and spa therapies can have an effect on them. You'll learn how to consult with clients, devise treatment plans, and select professional products to meet client needs and apply these using various techniques. You'll learn how to provide hand and foot treatments and depilation techniques for all face and body areas. You'll learn body massage and how to perform signature massage techniques on clients to suit their needs and client aims. You'll gain an understanding of the benefits of massage and the use of pre-blended essential oils. You'll learn about skincare and how to consult and devise a treatment plan for a facial treatment including a facial/scalp massage. You will provide aftercare and homecare advice including skincare product advice to meet the clients needs and lifestyle.

Out of the classroom you will also gain:

hands-on experience in our commercial training salons
participation in promotional events, such as campus wellbeing days
undertake meaningful work experience
