Overview
This course offers a practical and supportive introduction to hospitality, ideal for those looking to take their first steps into the industry. The unique combination of baking and barista, is perfect for aspiring bakers who dream of opening their own coffee shop in the future. You will be given the opportunity to sell your baked products, with a specialist coffee, from our own coffee cart or training restaurant.
Entry requirements
This course is open to anyone who has:
- A keen interest in hospitality, especially baking and coffee making.
- A desire to develop practical skills and explore career options.
- The ability to stand in a hot kitchen for long periods of time.
- National 3 qualifications in Maths and English or to have completed a relevant SCQF 3 course, or equivalent.
If you don’t have formal qualifications, but have appropriate experience or training, we are happy to consider your application.
Course content
This course covers:
- Ingredients used in baking.
- Weighing and measuring.
- Baking terms and techniques.
- Baking a wide range of products such as: scones, cupcakes, traybakes, sponges and breads.
- Related theory to support what you learn in the kitchen.
- Making a variety of coffees and hot drinks.
