If you’ve always wanted to work in a coffee shop, behind a bar or start your journey in hospitality, but lacked the confidence to do so, then this course is the one for you. You will be in a practical setting, making a variety of coffees and cocktails, doing some cooking and will take part in a few events. You will also do the theory related to your practical subjects.
Entry requirements
- National 3 qualifications in English and Maths.
- A genuine interest in the course.
Course content
- Mental health and wellbeing: gain a mental health and wellbeing award at SCQF Level 4.
- Barista skills: master the art of being a skilled Barista.
- Mixology: learn how to mix ingredients to create fabulous drinks.
- Customer care: improve your customer care skills by looking at techniques to keep your customers happy.
- Events: jump into the exciting world of events.
Skills
This course supports growth in the key areas including:
- Communication.
- Confidence.

- Practical skills such as coffee making and cooking.
- Meta-skills such as team working, using initiative.
Careers and further studies
On completion of this course you may:
- Apply for positions in coffee shops or bars.
- Progress to Steps to Hospitality, Developing Professional Cookery and Hospitality Skills or Professional Cookery and Bakery (all level 4/5 courses).
