Overview
This course is a gateway to supervisory roles in the dynamic hospitality and events industry. It can open doors to many exciting career opportunities. The advanced customer service expertise you'll gain and hands-on training you'll receive will prepare you to provide first class experiences in hotels, restaurants and in the wider events industry.Entry Requirements
For this course you'll need:
- a food and beverage service, hospitality or cookery qualification at Level 5
- OR evidence of successes at SCQF Level 5 (National 5)
- a genuine interest in the hospitality and events industry
If you don't have formal qualifications, but have appropriate experience or training, then we'll also consider you for a place, so please do apply.
Course Content
This course includes:
- hands-on training: spend one day each week serving customers in our live training restaurant, Westerly
- expert knowledge: acquire in-depth knowledge of both food and drinks so you can provide informed recommendations to customers
- financial literacy: learn how to cost out recipes and events, a crucial skill for success in hospitality management
- event management: plan and execute your very own event, putting your skills into practice
- functions: participate in real functions such as business events or bespoke dinners, gaining exposure to the operational side of the industry
- industry visits: explore renowned establishments broadening your industry perspective
- masterclasses: take part in masterclasses led by local industry professionals, providing who will provide expertise to enrich your learning
- employer insights: hear valuable tips from leading employers, successful venue owners and industry suppliers which will help you advance in hospitality
Careers and Further Study
There is a good track record of learners accessing industry roles directly however on successful completion learners can then move onto our January Start Part 2 Events/Hospitality course to further their understanding. In the part 2 course there will also be examples of Level 7 work to complete to ensure learners continue to develop a comprehensive knowledge of the industry.
Skills
Customer service and organisational skills will be developed along with key Metaskills such as Adapting, Collaborating, Communication, Leading and Initiative.
Employer and Industry Links
Visits to key employers and industry links will form part of the course content allowing learners to view varying parts of the industry.
Articulation Route
The most likely articulation route is toward our January Start Part 2 Level 6 Events and Hospitality course.
