Overview

This is a great course to learn about hospitality and to see if your skills and qualities are suited to this area. It provides an introduction to the professional kitchen and to front of house. It will suit you if you are creative and like doing practical tasks. You should like working with people, be okay to be on your feet for 2 hours in the kitchen and work with different ingredients.

Course Content

  • You will learn basic food preparation, baking and cooking techniques
  • You will identify your strengths and what areas these lie in
  • You will learn front of house skills including working a barista coffee machine, setting tables and customer service.
  • You will have the challenge of designing and developing your own product. This could be a mocktail or biscuit – the world is your oyster!

Entry Requirements

You need National 3 English and Maths as well as a real interest in learning about the hospitality industry.

You will also need to have a strong reference from the school that acknowledges that you are fully aware of the time commitment and breadth of study expected from you.

This course has a demanding practical element, and you are required to be on your feet for long periods of time. 

How will I be assessed?

Assessment will be mainly practical observations and task based. There is no formal exam.

What should I expect?

This course is approx. 50% practical and 50% theory. You will spend some time in the kitchen, the classroom and the restaurant.
