Overview

Our PDA Criminology is designed to introduce you to a selection of topics and areas of debates that inform contemporary justice. Learners will examine how crime and criminal justice have been theorised and then consider theoretical explanations of crime causation and criminalisation. The aims of the criminal justice and penal system will also be covered.

Entry Requirements

Demonstrated ability to study at SCQF Level 8 and a strong interest in criminology and social justice, as this is essential for success in the course.

Course Content

The PDA in Criminology at SCQF Level 8 covers areas such as, Theories of crime causation and criminalisation Aspects of the criminal justice system in Scotland An open-minded, critical and evaluative approach to study Data handling, critical analysis and complex thinking skills Problem solving and research skills You will complete the mandatory Criminology unit as well as Sociology A as part of the course

Careers and Further Study

On successful completion of the course you could progress onto other PDA programmes or HNC Social Science
