Overview

The area of Sports Coaching and Development can lead to a number or related careers.  This course will allow learners a greater appreciation of the role that sport plays, and how best to develop sport within our communities alongside an understanding of the responsibilities of an effective sports coach.

Entry Requirements

  • Genuine interest in sport and fitness.
  • Ideally two Graded Highers (A-C) OR a pass in a relevant NC course at SCQF Level 6.
  • Interview with us.
  • Membership in the PVG scheme – the College will arrange this.

If you have no formal qualifications, but life experience, we'll consider you.

Course Content

Experience a dynamic blend of practical and theoretical learning:

  • Sports development: investigate building sustainable sport projects within communities.
  • Human anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics in sport: gain essential understanding of how the body functions and performs, along with how it can be trained.
  • Developing professional practice: tailor your coaching role for the best participant experience.
  • Sports coaching practitioner: develop a broad understanding of being a sports coach.

Next Steps and Career Opportunities

Upon successful completion, explore various paths, including: progress to HND Year 2 Sports Coaching and Development.

You may have the opportunity to pursue these career options:

Active Schools Coordinator, Sport Development Officer, Sports Coach, Sport/Health Promotion Roles, or Primary/Secondary Teaching (following progression to degree and postgraduate study).

Skills

You will also develop meta-skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, and adaptability in a supportive learning environment.
