Ayr Grammar pupils enjoy Science visit

Ayrshire College recently hosted Primary 3 pupils from Ayr Grammar Primary School for a fun-filled day of science activities.

The pupils worked in groups to conduct science experiments at the Ayr Campus under the watchful eyes of their teachers and college lecturers.

In total, the school pupils got involved in 9 experiments, including attempting to remove dye from the surface of Skittles, comparing the viscosity of various liquids, and making an egg float in water by adding salt.

Ms Pickard, P3B Teacher at Ayr Grammar Primary School, said “Our learners have really enjoyed being able to experience real science experiments in a real science lab. Our interdisciplinary learning topic this term is ‘muck, mess and mixtures’, and our visit to Ayrshire College definitely ticked all of these boxes!”

Although the Ayr Grammar pupils may be too young to enrol this year, Ayrshire College is running an Introduction to Science course from August and there are spaces still available.

Alan McDowall, lecturer in Sciences at Ayrshire College, said “Ayr Grammar P3 pupils are a credit to their teachers and school. They followed all the activities and behaved like proper little scientists, fully engaging with all the activities. The College staff had a fantastic time working with these young scientists.”
